Translation is much more than replacing one word with another. It requires careful consideration of a context, a subject area and, most importantly, a target audience.
A WORD OR EXPRESSION WILL BE TRANSLATED DIFFERENTLY DEPENDING ON ITS TARGET, WHETHER POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS OR COLLEAGUES.
If you’re speaking to a poker enthusiast, or a lover of open spaces. A culture vulture, or a techie in a cutting-edge specialism.
Fluency in a foreign language is not enough, translators must have faultless proficiency in their native tongue too. This is the only language they translate into, as stipulated by the French translators’ association (SFT) code of ethics, and it is their grasp of every nuance of the language that enables them to achieve the required precision and fluidity.
